Work in the industry

Jobs to do in the industry

Not only is there work as a performer in the industry, there are other ways to get yourself work to open up opportunities for yourself to also then put on your performance cv to enhance your experience within the industry.

Work that could be included:

  • Volunteer work - volunteering at festivals (Glastonbury, Reading etc)
  • Volunteering backstage at theatres - costume changes, makeup and hair styling
  • Volunteering at local dance schools and stage coaches to take worships and technique classes.
  • Front of house - communication skills and people skills needed within this job. This is a perfect way to enhance your communication skills when it comes to future auditions and having the correct confidence and persona.
  • self employed events - children's party singer, party princess, events singer
  • stage manager
  • Runner
The purpose for all of these possible ideas are to promote yourself and get experience.
All of these job ideas are part of the arts industry and can be included on performers CV as it is relevant yo your skills.

Jobs and work that I personally could do now as part time jobs or volunteer work in spare time could be:
  • Front of house work at local theatre companies
  • Running technique classes and work shops at dance schools and stage coaches
  • Singing at events and promoting myself as a self employed business - Wedding singer, party singer.
  • Look at doing student films to gain experience in film.
All of these ideas mentioned in this post are easy ways that myself as a performer could promote myself in the business and gain experience in the industry. The more experience I have that is relevant and that I could put in my performers CV could create possible opportunities when going to an agency or company to promote my skills. I will definitely start looking around locally to see if I am able to do extra work possibly as front of house or look at doing some volunteer work taking dance classes and workshops through my experience and training in dance at dance schools and stagecoaches. All of this work is valuable experience as it enhances people skills and communication skills to new people and is an important aspect when it comes to auditions in the future to give yourself a good presentation of communication skills and confidence.
